Yep, I think that's right — we have just been avoiding calling everything an agent because it's so wrapped up in the hype.
Different compound systems/agents/whatever are going to have different requirements, and the changing dynamics of the underyling tech is going to affect how they're built.
Compound systems are just protolythic agents. Makes it much easier to visualize agents, tool use, etc
